Welcome to Elfin Cottages

Elfinston Corner from the garden

Elfin Cottages are two self-catering units at Elfinston Corner, a family home in Walberswick set in its own large mature garden. This wonderful thatched house was constructed from the timbers of a barn in Lavenham, known as Oak Barn, which was transported and re-built by architect Ernst Freud in the 1930's. Ernst Freud was son to Sigmund Freud and is the architect on which 'The Sea House' is based, written by Esther Freud, who depicts the history of Walberswick in her book. Elfinston Corner has been owned by a sculptress and German Baroness, some of whose family escaped Nazi Germany, and also by Mrs. Norway Shute, wife of the novelist Nevil Shute (1899-1961).

Elfinston Corner is the main part of the house sleeping four in two bedrooms whilst Elfin Cottage is a single storey self-contained annexe that sleeps two in one double bedroom. Elfin Cottage has a specially-built conservatory which functions as the main living room, and which has great views on two sides.
These two properties can be let separately as individual units or, by utilising the connecting door, can be booked together to easily accommodate up to six people. Both properties enjoy access to the lovely mature garden, rich in wildlife, with its wonderful views across open countryside towards the sea and marshes.
